PAM Africa CEO on Affordable Power Solutions with Nigeria Info FM

According to a report, about 770 million Africans still do not have access to electricity. This translates to about 38% of Africans living in darkness. Fortunately, Africa is blessed with constant sunlight, creating an opportunity for electricity generation through solar.
On May 23rd 2022, Dr. Patrick Agese, the founder and CEO of clean energy startup PAM Africa, discussed access to solar and providing sustainable power for Africans on Nigeria Info FM.
In the radio interview hosted by Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, Dr. Patrick talks about discovering solar power at 10 years old and becoming committed to leveraging that power to provide electricity for all Africans. Since founding PAM Africa in 2021, the startup has gone on to provide power to homes, small and large-scale businesses.
Post the Russia-Ukraine conflict, global power prices have increased, making it more expensive to transition to solar than ever before. To ensure affordability, PAM Africa uses its engineering design knowledge to create power systems tailored to individual homes or businesses rather than overdesigning a one-fit-all solution.
Additionally, in May 2022, PAM Africa collaborated with some finance partners to launch its energy-as-a-service plan, allowing people to go solar for as low ass 8,000 Naira per month.
In rural communities, about 80 million Nigerians do not have access to electricity and may struggle to pay for solar. To tackle this, the company offers innovative solar solutions using mini and mesh grids. This solution connects the houses of the members of these communities using solar by using a grid that produces electricity at the point of use. So far, about 16 villages soon to be known as “net-zero villages” in Osun, Port Harcourt, Akwa-Ibom and more have signed up. These villages will be fully powered by renewable energy and enjoy 24 hours electricity.
Dr. Patrick goes on to talk about the difference between lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries and why the more expensive lithium-ion is a better investment.
